„Tokyo“ is the first book by Gerry Johansson in our house. The images already made in 2004 show a deserted Japanese capital, an architecture with clear geometric structures. Some of the modern high-risers turn into graphic patterns. Very rarely you will find traditional houses or street-scenes. Even typical Japanese trees appear sometimes as shadows on concrete walls. Or look like an art of growing bonsai trees next to huge sky scrapers. By using the large format 8 by 10 inch camera, the black & white negatives together with the artists gelatine-silver enlargements produce an enormous variety of greyscales.
