Toshio Shibata (*1949)

Toshio Shibata (jap. 柴田敏雄) was born in Tokyo 1949. He graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1974 concentrating primarily on painting. He studied with a fellowship at the Royal Academy of Ghent in Belgium from 1975 to 1977 and begin his study of photography during this period. He exhibited prolifically since 1979; from 1987 he has also taught photography in Tokyo. He is most known for his large-format photographs of large-scale works of civil engineering in unpopulated landscapes.
